Trek Details
The Mardi Himal Trek is a nice trail in the Annapurna region. The trek takes you from subtropical forests to high altitude landscapes, culminating at Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 m, with stunning views of Machhapuchhare (Fishtail - 6,993 m), the iconic, sacred peak that dominates the skyline throughout the trek. You will also enjoy views over Mardi Himal itself (5,587 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Hiunchuli (6,441 m). Annapurna I (8,091 m), the highest peak in the Annapurna range, and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), will be occasionally visible from various points on the trail. It passes through beautiful villages, allowing trekkers to experience rural Nepalese life. The trail leads through stunning rhododendron forests and offers panoramic views over the hills and especially from High Camp. It is a suitable trek for hikers seeking a moderate, serene adventure. It can be completed in 6-7 days, making it a perfect short trek.

You may hike an estimated 6 hours and you should be able to climb 800 m (2,600 ft) a day. You may be able to cope with consecutive days’ walking. You are in good health and we recommend that you maintain your fitness before departure by participating regularly in physical activities and walking.

Itinerary

A short domestic flight brings you to Pokhara scenic flight to Pokhara and the Phewa Lake. Then, after a one-hour drive to Kande, you start trekking towards Australian Camp through forests of oak and rhododendron and continue through serene landscapes to Deurali (2,100 m), with views of Machhapuchhare (Fishtail). Approx. 4/5 hours hike, ascending 630 m and descending 30 m.

The trail gradually ascends to Low Camp (3,035 m) through dense rhododendron forests, rich in biodiversity, offering a calm and serene atmosphere. From Low Camp you can observe the transition from dense forests to more open terrain. The views are dominated by the majestic peak of Machhapuchhare, which starts to emerge clearly from this point. Approx. 6/7 hours hike, ascending 1,210 m and descending 360 m.

This is a relatively short but steep ascent through himalayan meadows and rhododendron forests, reaching High Camp (3,590 m). You are rewarded with stunning panoramic views over Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhare. Approx. 4/5 hours hike, ascending 630 m and descending 100 m.

Today is the big day of your trek, starting in the very early morning. The trail is steep and narrow as you ascend to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m). From the top, enjoy spectacular sunrise and views of the Annapurna range, Machhapuchhare, and surrounding landscapes. After soaking in the views, descend back to High Camp for the night. Approx. 7/8 hours hike, ascending and descending 940 m.

A long descent takes you through less-traveled trails, in a dense and subtropical forest to Landruk (1,565 m). The village is surrounded by terraced rice, millet, and vegetables. Landruk is predominantly inhabited by the Gurung community, and you can experience traditional customs, and architecture. Then, you will reach back Pokhara by local jeep. Approx. 7/8 hours hike, ascending 140 m and descending 2,000 m, and 2 hours drive.

Back to Kathmandu by plane or jeep or microbus and transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu. Approx 30 minutes flight or 6/7 hours drive.
