Himalayas in Eyes: When Mountains become Identity
A look back at the photo exhibition held in Lyon between July 6th and 12th, 2026
"The Himalaya in the Eyes: When Mountains Become Identity" was a powerful exhibition by Nepali photographer Sundar Thapa Magar. It showcases forty evocative black-and-white and color photographs that intertwine the raw beauty of the Himalaya with the profound diversity of its people.
At its core were captivating portraits—each face a testament to the region’s rich ethnic mosaic. From weathered elders to vibrant youth, each look told a unique story of life at the roof of the world.
Alongside these faces, majestic images of the world’s highest summits and glaciers created a stunning dialogue between people and mountain. Originally hosted at Galerie Imag’in in Lyon from July 6th to 12th, the exhibition continues in Lautrec, Tarn, from July 18th to 26th.
